Hello Tocaya Organica at The Point!

Hello Tocaya Organica at The Point!

Ever since The Point opened up in El Segundo, California; I have been a fan! It truly is a premier destination to shop and dine at.  From Italian pastas at North Italia to burgers at Hopdoddy;  this Hello Kitty Foodie has enjoyed it all.  Adding on to the diverse dining family at The Point is yet another wonderful restaurant; Tocaya Organica.

First founded in Venice in 2016, Tocaya Organica also has locations in Hollywood, Santa Monica, Playa Vista and Century City. This Tocaya Organica at The Point is the sixth Tocaya Organica location.

Tocaya Organica is a modern organic Mexican restaurant that is all about always sustainable, always fresh, always sustainable cuisine. They offer a variety of salads, tacos, bowls and burritos that are made out of the highest quality ingredients paired with bold flavors.

One of the things I enjoyed at Tocaya Organica is the ability to customize your taco, bowl or burrito with your choice of protein or queso. For meats, you have a variety of choices from carne asada to vegan picadillo. Cheese choices range from queso fresco to vegan chipotle jack.

For the bowls, one of their most popular items is the Fajita Del Rey bowl.

The Fajita Del Rey bowl comes with sautéed poblano peppers, onions, spanish rice, black beans, vegan chipotle cream, guacamole and pico de gallo. I chose to get it with Tocaya Organic’s very special vegan picadillo. This is their own picadillo recipe featuring their house made pea-based protein that has  carrots, zucchini, onions, potatoes & tomatoes. The picadillo was made perfectly. It was soft and tasty and went well with the rice and guacamole. I combined this with the zesty flavors of tapioca, arrowroot & chipotle that came from the Vegan chipotle jack. This bowl full of vegan delights was simply amazing.

The bowls are awesome but so are their tacos too. I highly recommend getting their taco combo plate which gives you a little taste of everything because it comes with your choice of two sides and a drink.

For the tacos, similar to the bowls; you can choose your protein and queso. I got the Cali Green taco with marinated shredded beef and manchego cheese and the Barrio Style taco with achiote chicken and jalepeno jack. Tacos aren’t just for Tuesdays friends! If you dine at Tocaya Organica; you’ll want them every day! The bold flavors of the tacos are sure to please your palate. Pair these up with some of their amazing sides and you’ll sure to be in heaven. I truly enjoyed by side of tortilla soup that had large chunks of avocado inside along with tomato, roasted bell pepper, vegan mozzarella and crispy tortilla strips. I also had a side of their soft and sweet corn tamale. Tacos plus sides equals happy foodie, happy tummy. Best of all this is all healthy! Healthy, happy eats!

As I mentioned, the taco combination comes with a drink as well. You do not want to miss their great iced teas, aguas frescas and limeades. My favorite is the watermelon but their cucumber mint and strawberry basil are also very refreshing!

Tocaya Organica at The Point is a great place to enjoy customized organic Mexican eats. It’s a wonderful addition to one of the best plazas in El Segundo!

Hello Pressed Juicery @ The Point!

Hello Pressed Juicery @ The Point!

Another new hot spot has opened up at El Segundo’s  The Point and it is no other than Pressed Juicery.

Pressed Juicery is a popular juicer offering cold pressed juices made out of farm fresh produce. They are known for juices that do not have any sugar, sweeteners, fillers, or preservatives. It’s all about bringing a healthy lifestyle to people through juice.

Their juice menu offerings are from the following categories: seasonal, green, roots, citrus, fruits, signature, coffee, H2O and refreshers and classics. They also have three different cleanses to choose from.

Aside from juice drinks however, Pressed Juicery has a very unique offering in their Freeze frozen dessert!

The Freeze is Pressed Juicery’s version of ice cream. This soft serve cool treat is made purely out  vegetables, fruits, nuts and almond milk.  It’s gluten-free, dairy-free, and has no added sugars. There are six different flavors to choose from  Greens (Apple, celery, cucumber, kale, lemon, parsley, romaine, spinach, dates, coconut), Roots  (Beets, carrots, apple, lemon, ginger, dates, coconut), Citrus  (Orange, apple, pineapple, dates, coconut), Fruits (Strawberry, apple, coconut, dates),  Vanilla (Almonds, dates, vanilla bean, sea salt) or Chocolate (Cacao, almonds, dates, vanilla bean, sea salt)

I tried a  Freeze with a mix of Vanilla and Greens flavors and topped it with shaved almonds, strawberries and granola.

This has to be the healthiest soft serve I’ve ever had as well as one of the tastiest. Who knew I could get vegetables in a dessert and have it taste good? The combo I got gave me some veggies (via the Greens flavor), healthy fats (via the Vanilla flavor and shaved almonds), fruits (via the strawberries) and the extra tasty crunch of granola! I could not ask for more in a dessert. It was healthy and made me happy.

I have always been fond of all the spots that have opened up at The Point and I am happy to see Pressed Juicery as part of the amazing line up of places there.

Hello Lil’ Simmzy’s @ The Point!

Ever since The Point opened up in El Segundo, this Hello Kitty Foodie has loved every single spot there. I’ve tried North ItaliaHopdoddyTrue Food KitchenSuperba Food and DrinkPeet’s Coffee and Smitten Ice Cream. Now another new delicious spot has opened up and it no other than The Craft Shack!

Lil’ Simmzy’s  is a sister restaurant of The Tin Roof Bistro, Manhattan Beach Post, Fishing with Dynamite and Simmzy’s.

Being a Beach Cities girl, I love the concept of Lil’ Simmzy’s. There is a simple and chic beach vibe. There are colorful beach chairs and umbrellas around the outdoor seating and a walk up counter where you can order food and drinks.

It’s all about beach bites with their menu . Items on the menu include a craft shack burger, grilled chicken sandwich, poke tacos, grilled fish tacos and a chicken apple walnut salad. Drinks wise you can find Hank’s soda, lemonade, iced tea and various wine, cocktails and a beer.

My food choice the day I wen was their cheesy nacho fries.

I can totally picture enjoying this at the beach. It’s shoestring fries, nacho cheese sauce, jalapeños , chile de Arbol sauce, sour cream, pico de gallo and ground beef. Full of flavor and unique, this dish is perfect as a side or main entree.

Lil’ Simmzy’s is a great addition to The Point. With its feel good vibe and classically beach bites, it’s a great place to enjoy a beautiful day at The Point.

Hello Smitten Ice Cream @ The Point!

Hello Smitten Ice Cream @ The Point!

I have been “smitten” with The Point ever since it opened up! I love El Segundo’s hot spot for shopping and dining! Now there is a new reason for me to be even more smitten than ever before! A new yummy spot has opened up at The Point and it no other than Smitten Ice Cream.

Smitten Ice Cream first opened up in Northern California. It’s the brain child of Robyn Sue Fisher, a graduate of Stanford’s Graduate School of Business. Her goal when graduating was simple and it was to make the best ice cream ever.

Her concept of making the best ice cream ever came to be with her creation of the Brr machine. Using liquid nitrogen at -321 degrees farenheit, ice cream is created. The super-cold temperature makes a much smoother cool treat!

All the flavors are fresh from TCHO chocolate to salted caramel to earl grey. One cannot help be “smitten” with all the delicious treats!

When I heard Smitten Ice Cream was coming to The Point, you bet I was there the first day! I was second in line and soon enough I was “smitten.” My flavor of choice was cookie dough with pretzels and chocolate chips.  My ice cream treat was wonderful! It was fresh, creamy and not overly sweet. It was the perfect for the summer day. How could I not be smitten.

Smitten Ice Cream is actually not only great for hot days but for cool nights as well. I’ve found myself enjoying a scoop of their cool treats with friends on a night out at The Point. Ice cream by a fire pit, why not? 🙂 Smitten Ice Cream is perfect for any time, day or night!

Many years ago, Robyn Sue Fisher dreamed of making the best ice cream ever. Her dream became a reality because Smitten Ice Cream is indeed ice cream to be “smitten” over.

Hello Peet’s Coffee @ The Point!

Hello Peet’s Coffee @ The Point!

Coffee houses make me smile and when I heard Peet’s Coffee was opening up at one of my favorite South Bay hot spots, The Point, I knew I would have to check this place out.

This October was the perfect time to finally make a visit to Peet’s Coffee @ The Point because this month Peet’s is offering seasonal pumpkin specialties! Coffee houses and pumpkin goodies! My two crushes have come together, how can I not make a visit!?!  😉

One beautiful overcast day, I found myself at Peet’s with my eye on the (pumpkin) prize. I originally intended to just get a pumpkin latte but when I saw some their pumpkin food goodies, I chose to get a sweet treat as well.

For my drink, I got the pumpkin latte with almond milk. First sip and I instantly had a coffee crush. This drink definitely makes the top of the list of best pumpkin lattes I’ve ever had. The pumpkin taste is subtle and mild but just right.  The steamed almond milk was my favorite. It brought a lovely sweet taste to the drink. The light foam on the top was a nice touch. I once had a friend who said Peet’s Coffee is like no other and I agree, this coffee was amazing. The combo of espresso coffee, creamy steamed almond milk, sweet vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg all came together perfectly. Pumpkin perfect.

My sweet treat was a pumpkin pie bar. One of my favorite dessert bars is lemon bars but I think this has now changed to Peet’s pumpkin pie bar. Shortbread crust with real pumpkin pie and topped with sweet crumbles and real pumpkin pie seeds, this dessert bar is nothing short of heavenly. The pumpkin pie base was so creamy. I was pleasantly surprised with the pumpkin pie seeds on the top! Just like the pumpkin latte, Peet’s sure knows what pumpkin perfection is.

Coffee houses make me smile but Peet’s Coffee House did not just make me smile but made my heart oh so happy!

Hello True Food Kitchen @ The Point!

Hello True Food Kitchen @ The Point!

“Honest food that tastes really good.”

That phrase is painted on the wall of True Food Kitchen at The Point and was the first thing I noticed when I walked in. Yes, once again Hello Kitty Foodie is at South Bay’s newest destination for shopping, dining and entertainment and this time it is to check out True Food. Kitchen.

Ever since The Point opened and ever since I spotted True Food Kitchen I have been intrigued with this restaurant’s concept. Their website says “You don’t have to be a die-hard Yogi to dine at True Food Kitchen. You need only a desire to give your body nutrients, and your palate something memorable.” I love Yoga but in no means am a Yogi either. I am all for happiness, health and overall balance however and reading that on True Food’s website made me just want to try this place out.

One happy and relaxing Friday afternoon, I took some much needed “me time” and checked this place out. With a beautiful wide open space feel including an open kitchen, I instantly took a liking to True Food Kitchen
I learned that their menu is seasonal. Currently they are on Volume One: Summer menu. A menu consisting of various starters, pizza, salads, sandwiches, entrees and drinks, I was first attracted to their “Natural Refreshers” They have all kinds of house made drinks consisting of natural ingredients like coconut, turmeric, ginger etc. It’s reminded me of being at a juice bar. I loved the various names of their drinks to. They have “Medicine Man,” “Kale-Aid,” and “Hangover Rx” among the cute names
Upon talking to the waitress, I learned their “Sparkling Watermelon Soda” was their most popular drink and I decided to order that. When my watermelon soda came out, I knew instantly I would like this drink. Pretty in pink and made with watermelon, lime, cane sugar and sparkling water, it had Hello Kitty written all over it ;). The pretty presentation was matched with a pretty good taste as well because it was so refreshing. it was perfect for the hot summer day! The drink is not too sweet but definitely has that great watermelon taste. I was a fan of the pieces of fresh watermelon that was on top of the drink.

To match my sweet sip, I need some savory bites and once again upon the recommendation of the friendly staff at True Food Kitchen, I chose to get a dish they suggested, the street tacos. Their street tacos come in a trio with either grass-fed steak or sustainable fish and is topped with avocado, cotija cheese, tomatillo salsa, sour cream and anasazi bean. Being a non-fish eater, the grass-fed steak was my natural choice of meat. I loved the light tortillas that were packed with toppings! There was a generous amount of meat, veggies and more! I have to say my favorite topping was the cotija cheese. This really enhanced the flavor of the taco. The grass fed beef was great as well. It was perfectly lean and tender.

Overall the street tacos and the watermelon soda made for quite a tasty meal that made this Hello Kitty Foodie smile! My favorite is that everything was so fresh! Farmy fresh happiness! From their natural refresher to their tacos made with grass fed steak, it was a healthy, happy meal. Here at True Food Kitchen they say “health starts with gratitude” and I can definitely say I am grateful for my visit here!
