Hello Kitty Spam Musubi!

Hello Kitty Spam Musubi!

It’s hard to believe that just a couple ago, I was at the greatest event ever, Hello Kitty Con. As seen in my previous blog post there was definitely a lot of Hello Kitty Foodie discoveries there. All the kawaii sights of hello kitty food definitely inspired me to add a little more kitty in my future food creations.

One of the cutest food delights I saw was the Hello Kitty spam musubi. I found myself quite intrigued on how to make such a cute dish. It turns out it’s a pretty simple process thanks to a special limited edition hello kitty spam musubi kit from Spam. They offered these kits at Hello Kitty Con for around $20.

The way it works is you use a hello kitty mold from the kit to shape the rice into a hello kitty shape. After making the hello kitty shape, you need to make the face. This is done by adding nori for the whiskers and eyes. The little hello kitty bow can be made with some radishes or carrots or bell pepper. Once the hello kitty rice face is created, you can put the shaped hello kitty aside and proceed to make the body of hello kitty aka the spam musubi. The first step for this is to slice the spam up and to fry it with some soy sauce and sugar. Once the spam is fried, you can start making the actual hello kitty body. First take some nori strips and lay it down. Follow this with adding rice on top of the nori strips. Press down on the rice, add some furikake, add slice of spam and top with small nori strip. Press, press, press! Last of all is the fun part, attach your hello kitty shaped rice head onto the spam musubi body and you get the following….

Hello Kitty Foodie at Hello Kitty Con!

Hello Kitty Foodie at Hello Kitty Con!

The moment I first heard that Sanrio was doing a Hello Kitty Con, I knew I had to go! This was the first ever Hello Kitty convention in the world and a for sure must go to event for any Hello Kitty fan! I got the biggest surprise ever when I received an invitation to Hello Kitty Con’s media preview/VIP opening night and party! I sent my RSVP to go and could not wait till that night would come! Soon enough it did and I dressed up in my finest Hello Kitty gear 😉 .  My Hello Kitty attire consisted of Hello Kitty dress with embroidered hello kitties and a large gold embossed Hello Kitty, Hello Kitty pink shoes, Hello Kitty purse, Hello Kitty jewelry and of course Hello Kitty ears with red bow. (My outfit made it on the Hello Kitty Hell facebook. Haha)

From the moment I stepped on the red carpet and into Hello Kitty Con, I was in Hello Kitty heaven. Everything was Hello Kitty!

Hello Kitty of course was present in all the food and drink offerings of the night! For the VIP opening night party, Sanrio prepared an open bar for all the guests that included Hello Kitty California red and chardonnay, sparkling rose, white and pink.

They had special Hello Kitty drink for the night that was called “Hello Kitty Sweet ‘n’ Pretty consisting of lemonade and vodka. It was very much Hello Kitty inspired with it’s pretty pink color and even had a sweet red cherry on the top, The red cherry on the top was like Hello Kitty’s red bow! 🙂

Aside from the open bar, guests were treated to various appetizers such as this tasty mini reuben sandwich!

Right by the open bar was the very pretty in pink Hello Kitty Cafe Truck! This was the debut of the Hello Kitty Cafe Truck! They were offering sweet treats that are a preview of the Hello Kitty Cafe that will be debuting in summer of 2015 in Southern California! (Watch out for my upcoming South Bay Foodies article coming soon about the Hello Kitty Cafe! )

All of their treats had a little touch of Hello Kitty!

I got to try the hello kitty macarons from the Hello Kitty Cafe Truck! A set of five macarons came inside the cutest Hello Kitty box with a bow.
IMG_2592.JPG

I loved how the macarons were kittyfied ;). I loved the little Hello Kitty faces and red bows on top of the macarons! The macarons were light and lovely! It was the perfect cute little almond meringue!

Aside from the macarons, I got to try some of their mini cakes! They were equally adorable with little red Hello Kitty bows! Tastewise, they were sweet and delightful. They had a white chocolate coating on the outside and a moist cake in the inside.

There were also free cupcakes for the VIP guests! These treats also had a Hello Kitty touch with the Hello Kitty red bow on top! The cupcakes had rich chocolate base!

More foodie treats were to be found inside in the Hello Kitty Con Super SuperMarket! Similar to a Japanese market place, there were several booths offering all kinds of treats!

The SPAM booth in particular was especially foodie-licious with it’s super adorable Hello Kitty spam musubi! market spam

All VIP guests were given a Hello Kitty goodie bag that included cute Hello Kitty souvenirs and some foodie treats too! There was a Hello Kitty apple from Melissa’s Produce! This was the perfect giveaway since Hello Kitty and apples go together! (Did you know Hello Kitty is the height of 5 apples and the weight of 3 apples?)

Melissa’s Produce were also the folks who gave out free Hello Kitty pumpkins for Halloween!

Also in our goodie bag was some treats from Dylan’s Candy Bar! IMG_2615.JPG

I love the milk chocolate squares decorated in Hello Kitty galore that Dylan’s gave.

The foodie treats continued on beyond the VIP night because on the official Hello Kitty opening day, Yoplait gave out Hello Kitty yogurt to guests!

Yoplait handed out two Hello Kitty flavors that are from their Hello Kitty line!

The first flavor is the Friendship Berry!

The second flavor is the Super Duper Strawberry!

Who would’ve thought yogurt could be kittyfied too? The packaging is adorable and the yogurt is delicious!

I simply loved how everything was Hello Kitty here at Hello Kitty Con including all the food offerings! I was truly in Hello Kitty heaven! Hello Kitty Con for me was one of the best and happiest events for me! It’s was a dream come true for any Hello Kitty fan! It was a celebration of all things Hello Kitty and I was all smiles every moment!
