Hello Urth Caffe South Bay!

Hello Urth Caffe South Bay!

A couple years ago after Hello Kitty Con; I visited for the first time Urth Caffe in downtown LA. They made me a latte with a Hello Kitty design and I instantly became a fan. Now five years later, Urth Caffe has opened it’s 9th location and it’s in the South Bay! Yay!

This actually is not the first time the caffe has had a location in the South Bay. A fun fact is that the very first Urth Caffe location was in Manhattan Beach, California in 1991. That first branch was very successful but unfortunately closed. Now the popular caffe known for heirloom, organic coffee and tea and farm-to-table eats is back at the heart of the South Bay in Hawthorne, California! A grand opening was held just this October 27, 2019.

What makes this new South Bay location so special is this their commissary and cafe  is co-located. All of their baking, cooking, catering and coffee roasting is done at the Hawthorne facility. There’s a large open window right next to the caffe where visitors can personally see the Urth Caffe coffee roasting process.

I recently visited and was in complete awe of the gigantic location. I loved seeing the organic coffee roasting and the fresh bread being baked. I also got to enjoy breakfast there with my mom and it was indeed morning bliss.

The Urth Caffe latte was as good as I remembered. It also was beautifully decorated. I didn’t have a Hello Kitty design on mine but it definitely made me smile. It was a ray of (coffee) sunshine that simply made my day!

My choice for the latte was the Spanish latte. This sweet, creamy caffé latte inspired by coffee in Barcelona is one of their most popular drinks! My mom chose their Honey Vanilla latte. Her lovely latte consisted of natural vanilla, a touch of honey, espresso and steamed milk.

For breakfast, I chose to get the Chicken Pesto Omelette.

It was a three egg omelette with grilled chicken, pesto, mozzarella and goat cheeses. It came with a side of fresh bread and a nice serving of locally grown mixed greens salad. The omelette was very fulfilling and it made for a great first meal of the day!

We also go to try their Nutella Girella Bun.

This bun was simply divine. It was a flaky, buttery croissant with Nutella spread, hazelnut ganache and roasted hazelnuts.

It was one amazing morning visiting Urth Caffe and I knew then that I would be back soon.

Two days later I decided to check Urth Caffe out for lunch. Lunch was as delicious as breakfast.

I really love how their dishes are so healthy. My boyfriend chose the healthy Caravan Kale Salad.

This was one beautiful salad consisting of organic Tuscan kale, organic red quinoa, Persian cucumbers, roasted yams, red onion, pita chips and fresh mint. It was tossed in their pomegranate vinaigrette and then topped off with ricotta salata cheese.

For my lunch entree; I chose their ever so popular Chicken Curry sandwich.

I chose to get this in a pita bread. The pita was stuffed with chicken breast, raisins, onions, celery in a curry sauce & mayo. It was very tasty and fulfilling.

Whether one is kicking off the day with breakfast here or taking a lunch break or simply on a coffee run, Urth Caffe is definitely the new place to be in the South Bay!

Hello Offset Coffee!

Hello Offset Coffee!

“While it may seem small, the ripple effects of small things is extraordinary.”

Hello 2019! The new year is upon us! I am happy to write about a small new coffee shop that is sure to bring extraordinary eats and drinks to many this new year.

Offset Coffee opened up in Torrance, California just this December 27, 2018. The owners are two locals who simply love coffee. They wanted to share their love of coffee via opening up the only multi-roaster coffee shop in the South Bay.

Walking in, I instantly became a fan of the small and simple cafe. It definitely sets an “offset” type of mood from the hustle and bustle of a busy life. Very simple. Very basic. It’s all about taking a breather and simply enjoying the coffee here.

Their menu consists of various coffee delights ranging from drip coffee to cortado and flavored lattes.  Flavored lattes are vanilla, hazelnut and lavender. They also offer cold brews, Mexican cokes and hot chocolate.

Upon my visit here, my mom and I tried the hazelnut latte and cappuccino, respectively.

The hazelnut latte was simply delightful. It had the right hint of hazelnut flavor in the cup. It was nutty, sweet and creamy and a perfect match to the pastries we would also try on this visit.

The cappuccino was also great. A perfect starter for the day with it’s rich and bold flavor.

To go along with are cups of coffee, we tried two of their fresh baked pastries. Offset’s pastries are from Bakers Kneaded. Bakers Kneaded bakes daily in Los Angeles and all of their breads are made from California sourced and grown ingredients.

First up we tried the bombolini.

Talk about heaven in a bite. These Italian doughnuts are filled with custard that simply melts in the mouth. It is no wonder these sell out almost daily at the shop.

The next pastry we tried was their almond croissants.

The almond croissants have a buttery, flaky crust topped with powdered sugar and almonds. Inside is a lovely almond paste that is simply perfection.

Trying out Offset Coffee was great way or shall I say an extraordinary way to start the new year.  I cannot wait to have more “offset” days.

Hello Tea Time @ Holland America ms Zuiderdam!

Hello Tea Time @ Holland America ms Zuiderdam!

While on my cruise vacation, every 3pm, was my favorite time on Holland America’s ms Zuiderdam! Why 3pm? Well, dear blog friends it is because 3pm was tea time!

Tea time consisted of a lovely afternoon tea party at the deck three of the cruise ship in the Vista dining room. Here vacationers like myself got to enjoy a variety of little sandwiches, pastries and of course tea! I loved the little sandwiches that consisted of toppings like egg salad, cucumber and turkey. The pastries they served were always freshly baked! It was always sweet afternoon when one can eat lemon cookies, scones, tiramisu and chocolate dipped strawberries. The best thing however the tea that accompanied the food. We had our pick of different teas. My favorite was the cranberry apple tea. The classic green tea however was always a good choice for some zen time.

Tea time was something I looked forward to everyday! It was always a delightful afternoon whenever 3pm came around! 🙂

Hello Patisserie Chantilly!

Hello Patisserie Chantilly!

With it’s light mint green walls, cute and clean white tables with pink fuchsia and lime green chairs, it was hard for me not to fall in love with Patisserie Chantilly. I just got that warm, happy feeling walking into this pastry shop. When I spotted their delicious looking desserts and their coffee and tea menu, I knew I had found my latest pastry shop crush.

Patisserie Chantilly has a small drink menu consisting of various hot beverages like cafe lattes, English tea and Japanese green tea. They also have several iced beverages. I decided to get a hot beverage via their crema coffee. Their crema coffee is brewed with premium espresso beans that they import from Italy.

I loved the cute presentation of how the crema coffee was served. The petite coffee cup was served with a neat tray that had white and brown sugar cubes in a cup along with a small cup of cream.

The crema coffee was simply delightful and heartwarming. It was light and sweet. It was a delightful drink for a cold day and a perfect pair to the pastry dish that I ordered.

For my pastry, I chose to get the Choux aux sesame or black sesame cream puff. The choux aux sesame was one heavenly treat. The cream puff outer layer was so soft and delicate. The inside of the cream puff was a wonderful smooth, blend of sesame, honey and cream. It was love at first bite with this delectable dessert.

A cute little shop with delicious drinks and pretty pastries, Patisserie Chantilly now tops my list of sweet places that make me smile.

Hello 85c Bakery Cafe Grand Opening!

Hello 85c Bakery Cafe Grand Opening!

Fresh bread!!!

What goes perfect with fresh bread? Fresh brewed coffee! They say 85c is the perfect temperature to serve coffee. It’s also where the name of the 85c Bakery Cafe comes from. A popular bakery cafe known as the “Starbucks of Taiwan,” it has locations in various parts of the world like Taiwan, China and Australia. Although there are already several locations in California, I along with others were long awaiting the opening of the newest location in the South Bay. My happy anticipation of the grand opening was evident in my recent South Bay Foodies article.

Today the awaited day finally came and 85c Bakery Cafe had its grand opening! Happy customers like myself were greeted with colorful red and white balloons all around.

As we walked inside, we were each given a cute little red keychain.

The concept of the bakery is cute as well. You grab a pair of tongs and white tray and you go around choosing your favorite pastries from the plastic bins around the store. The 85c bakery cafe workers bring out baked goods from the kitchen and happily yell out “fresh bread!!!” as they come out with the pastries. It adds to the happy and cute atmosphere!

Their tag line, “fresh bread” fits well with the bakery because each and every pastry from here is fresh, soft and delightful.

The chocolate chip bowl is literally a bowl in size and a bowl full of sweet chocolate chips.

The premium milk bread is the epitome of delicate goodness .

The snowflake breads are filled with sweet custard. The name snowflake comes from the shape and the snow white powdered sugar on top.

The slices of raisin toast are so soft and nice.

The taro bread is one of their most popular breads and it’s no wonder why. It’s very soft, sweet and Purpleicious ;).

The boroh cream Danish is a crispy pineapple shaped bun with sweet butter coating and milk butter filling. It’s topped with slices almonds!

I was so happy filling my little tray with various sweet treats. It was a lot of fun and I made some friends while there as I chatted with the folks next to me and we compared the breads we put in our respective trays.

After choosing which breads would fill our individual trays. the happy food adventures continued on at the front counter where all the cakes are. It’s an amazing display. Each cake was beautifully decorated with various colorful toppings.

I chose to get a blueberry cheesecake for my grandma. It got packaged in a cute little basket like red box. Similar to the breads, the cheesecake is so nice. It has a creamy top with swirls of blueberry and a buttery crust underneath. I think the happy smile on my grandma’s face best describes how good it is. I like when my grandma smiles :).

I also had to get a pumpkin roll! My crush on all things pumpkin continued when I saw this beautiful roll topped with fresh whipped cream and a strawberry and filled with pumpkin cream!

Last but not least, I had to try one of their famous drinks. They have various teas, coffees and boba drinks such coffee jelly milk tea.

85c Bakery Cafe’s #1 drink is their sea salt drinks. They have sea salt green tea, black tea and coffee. I chose to get a sea salt jasmine tea. It has a white foam with sea salt and green tea specks on top and jasmine green tea on the bottom.

I was one happy hello kitty foodie with all my purchases at 85c Bakery Cafe today. Yummy breads, tarts, cheesecake, sea salt drink (and a smile from grandma) made my day!

As if all those purchases weren’t enough to make me smile, I got a free mug too! My new red mug will be filled with fresh coffee (that will be at 85c 😉

85C Bakery Cafe, I am a fan! I’m very happy I got to be a part of today’s grand opening.
