Hello Taqueria Gardena!

Hello Taqueria Gardena!

Pacific Square in Gardena; home to fabulous eateries such as Sweet Rice and Happy Lemon now has a new addition that will add even more deliciousness to the area. Taqueria Gardena just opened up this December 2019 and it is quickly becoming the go-to spot for tacos.

The new taqueria offers Tijuana style tacos topped with cilantro, onions, guacamole and salsa all on fresh made tortillas. One can get fish tacos, shrimp tacos, cachete tacos, suadero tacos, carne asada tacos, al pastor tacos and chicken tacos. There are even specialty tacos with cauliflower mole, portobello and enoki mushroom, pork belly and spicy fried chicken. Tacos are definitely not just for Tuesdays anymore! 😉

I recently visited and had some tasty taco treats!

I chose to get the al pastor tacos and chicken tacos. The flavor profile on these tacos are excellent. I love the spicy kick; the creamy texture and the chargrill on the meats. For a more fiery flavor; I even added some of their extra spicy salsa that they offer. This extra spicy salsa contains nuts and is made fresh by the same lady who makes their fresh made tortillas.

The tacos here are fantastic but they offer even more! They’ve got quesadillas, nachos and even Mexican fried rice!

Yes; you read that correctly! This taqueria offers fried rice and I knew i just had to check it out. Their version of Mexican fried rice can be purchased con carne (with meat) or sin carne (without meat).

I chose to get it with carne asada and was presented with a beautiful plate of loaded fried rice. It was topped with scrambled eggs, guacamole, chunks of carne asada and drizzles of sour cream. Yum! Similar to the tacos it was full of flavor. Fried rice has never been so unique.

Overall Taqueria Gardena is a great add to my favorite Pacific Square plaza in Gardena. I will definitely be stopping by again in the future (after some Hello Kitty shopping at the neighboring Sanrio Surprises) ;).

Hello Hiccups!

Hello Hiccups!

Hello Kitty has the Hiccups and it’s a good thing  😉).

There’s a new coffee/boba shop in town and it’s called Hiccups.

img_0900

This delightful drink spot recently opened up in Carson, California. It’s the second location for Hiccups, with the first location being in Lakewood, California.

It is always a treat for me to visit coffee/boba shops. From enjoying a quiet evening sipping a warm cup of tea to beating the heat on warm days with a slushie, drink shops are enjoyable.

Hiccups has an extensive menu of both hot and cold beverages for every Hello Kitty Foodie’s drinking pleasure. They have iced teas, iced milk teas, mojitos, coffee, slushies, smoothies, hot teas, hot lattes and soft drinks. Some of their  drinks even have some the cutest and kawaii names (Hello Kitty stamp of approval for that 😉). Some drink names that put a smile on my face included Pinch O’ Peach (peach raspberry green tea with real peach bits), Pink-A-Boo (strawberry peach blended with ice served with strawberry bits) and Fruity Booty (mango peach strawberry blended with ice served with peach bits).

Being the big mango fan that I am, I chose to get the Mango Mango!

img_0901

This is mango flavored green tea, hand shaken with ice. I really enjoyed this drink. It was very refreshing and the taste of mango was abundant. There were even bits of mango inside the drink.

One cannot live on drinks alone and thus alongside their delicious drinks, Hiccups offers up various appetizers, noodles, soups and rice dishes.

Being a big fan of egg rolls, Hiccup’s eggroll trio is one of my top choices for appetizers.

img_0902

They give a triple treat here of crispy egg rolls filled with ground pork,  veggies and vermicelli. Crispy and crunchy, they are great!

Another favorite appetizer of mine is their popcorn chicken!

The popcorn chicken is delicious! They give so much tender, crispy chicken! It is perfect with any of their drinks.

Next up I tried the Garlic Noodle with Beef.

img_0903

When they served up this dish, the delicious aroma of garlic instantly hit the table. The aroma hypes up this dish right from the start and I am pleased to say the hype is real. Not only does this dish smelled good, it tasted good as well. The  garlic noodles was topped with lots of tender beef, flavorful onions and crispy bell peppers.

Not to be outdone by the noodles, is the rice dishes. The chicken fried rice was another winning entree in this foodie’s book.

Similar to the noodles, the meat was abundant here. There were plenty of chicken slices along with carrots, peas and shrimp.

By the end of my meal, I was one happy camper with a smile on my face and with some…you guessed it some hiccups 😉. Yes, Hello Kitty has the hiccups and it is indeed a good thing ☺️.

Hello Pho Consomme!

Hello Pho Consomme!

Happy New Year! It’s a new year and along with the new year comes new opportunities and new adventures. How perfect is it that for my first dinner out for 2015, I tried a place that Yelp has listed as “hot and new.” This place is Pho Consomme located in Torrance, CA. There are also two other locations in California, one in Gardena and the other in Rowland Heights. When I saw this place, newly opened, my adventurous foodie side got excited and I decided to try it out. 😉 New year, new foods to try!

Their menu is pretty extensive with the biggest focus on the pho, noodle soups. For my first time here though, I went outside the box and tried something different. My adventurous foodie side kicked in and for this particular dinner, I chose to split with friends one appetizer and one rice dish.

The appetizer of choice for the night was the Bi Cuon. Bi means “pork skin” while cuon refers to a “roll”. At Pho Consomme, instead of pork skin, they used shredded pork. The roll was filled with various vegetables such as cilantro, basil and mint. There was also vermicelli noodles inside. It came with two dipping sauces, one peanut sauce and one spicy red pepper sauce. This appetizer was a meal in itself. Stuffed and oozing with the all the ingredients, it was hard not to be full after eating this appetizer. I loved the freshness of the dish. The crisp vegetables inside were a nice touch. The dipping sauces gave a special extra flavor kick. The peanut sauce a slight sweet flavor while the spicy red pepper sauce was fiery and burning.

The main entree of the night was Com Chien Consomme. It is the house special fried rice and had shrimp, chicken and beef. This dish was huge. There was plenty of flavorful, well seasoned fried rice and a good mix of shrimp, chicken and beef. It was my first time trying fried rice at a Vietnamese restaurant (once again, adventurous kitty was channeling in) and I did enjoy it. There’s a distinct flavor due to the mix of different ingredients. The beef and chicken were a little overcooked but overall It was a good and hearty rice dish.

Overall, it was good first dinner out for 2015. I got to try a new place and eat something that is not commonly ordered at a pho place. A new year, a new restaurant and new foods = new smiles.

Hello Hong Kong Express combo and boba!

Hello Hong Kong Express combo and boba!

Perhaps one may wonder why I am blogging about and writing a yelp review on a place that is a fast food joint/chain. I don’t think there is a rule of what to blog or yelp about and whether it is fine dining place or a hole in a wall, if I believe in a place, I will give the place the praise it deserves ;). I really wanted to blog about this place because I truly believed it is deserving of getting more positive feedback.

I stopped by here to get a quick lunch as well as some boba drinks and was really impressed.

I got a two item combo consisting of fried rice, chow mein, teriyaki chicken and chicken with mushrooms and zucchini. Portion wise the combo was enough for at least two meals. The lady working there even threw in a free egg roll. Taste wise the food was delicious too! My taste buds were delighted with the succulent teriyaki chicken. Equal in yumminess was my other chosen entree. The chicken with vegetables and mushrooms had a flavorful sauce that went well with the fried rice. The side chow mein was soft and good.

Equally impressive was the boba drinks here that are made to order. I really liked the boba here! The boba balls themselves are perfectly chewy and soft. The boba drink is tasty and sweet. This will be a new summer hot spot for me for drinks to keep me cool :).
