Last October, I shared on this blog my very rewarding experience of attending the Society of Women Engineers National Conference. It was one of the best events that I got to attend last year. When I heard I had the chance to attend this year’s Soceity of Women Engineers 2015 Professional Development Conference, I was super excited.
This year’s SWE PDC Conference was held at the penthouse of the Doubletree Hotel in Torrance, CA. The theme for this year’s conference was “Invigorate Your Career: Set a Course Towards Your Success.”
At the start of the conference, all of us attendees were greeted with a delicious breakfast brunch catered by the Doubletree Hotel. There were muffins, danishes, fruit cups and Peet’s Coffee and Tea. We got to enjoy these treats as we listened to the various speakers of the day. We heard from NGC VP Peggy Nelson, Dr. Robert Mauer and a wonderful panel that featured various women engineers from the industry. Peggy taught us the importance of being passionate at work and personal life. Dr. Mauer taught us that successful people accept fear. It was truly an inspiring morning!
At lunch, attendees got to bond with the fellow SWE members and the speakers at a buffet lunch at Andre’s Restaraunt. At Andre’s we got to enjoy a taco bar and a pasta bar. They also had a yummy sweet dessert buffet with different kinds of cakes!
The afternoon consisted of talks by Dr. Annie Chiu and Carey Grange who taught us all that “Confidence is the New Black.” The afternoon speeches were rounded off with Pootencium Limted CEO, Johanna Hollowich and Exxon Mobil environmental manager, Penny Wirsing. As we listened to their very inspiring talks about success, we enjoyed Doubletree’s famous chocolate cookies! It was so nice to enjoy the best cookies at one of the best conferences.
This year’s Professional Development Conference was truly inspiring and motivating! Great talks, fantastic networking and bonding with fellow engineers in the industry, it was one great event!
